Karolina, Forensic Psychology Student, University of Derby

How Present Pal supported Karolina to feel more prepared, less anxious, and more in control of her presentations.

The Challenge

As a Forensic Psychology student at the University of Derby, Karolina regularly delivers presentations, including group work, narrated recordings, and live talks. But before being recommended Present Pal, she found this part of her course particularly challenging.

Living with a mental health condition, Karolina experienced difficulties with memory and preparation. She often struggled to remember what she wanted to say and found it hard to structure her thoughts ahead of speaking. This left her feeling overwhelmed and underprepared, making presentation tasks more stressful and harder to succeed in.

As part of my course, I had group presentations, narrated presentations and presentations presented by me. I found it hard to remember everything and what I wanted to say and actually prepare myself for speaking.

The Solution

Following her Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) Needs Assessment, Karolina was introduced to Present Pal, a presentation support tool designed to reduce anxiety, aid preparation, and improve delivery.

I have managed to start earlier on preparing myself for presentations. Also, it has been easier to practice what I want to say, and I can remember more information by using Present Pal.

Karolina began using Present Pal’s flashcard and rehearsal features to break down what she wanted to say into manageable prompts and practice at her own pace. Being able to rehearse in a structured and accessible format helped her retain information, get into a routine earlier, and feel more in control by the time her presentation came around.
