Chief Executive Officer - Chris Hughes


hris is an extremely driven and ambitious individual. He is The University of Strathclyde’s Entrepreneurial Program’s youngest ever Rising Star at only 19. By 21, Chris has gone on to receive over £230,000 in funding; winning many of Scotland's leading entrepreneurship competitions including The Herald Digital Student Entrepreneur of the Year and receiving runner up prize in Converge Challenge 2016, amongst others. 

Chris is a visionary, always creating new concepts, products and features. Alongside a strong technical knowledge, Chris has dyslexia himself, so brings deep insight into what would be beneficial to this marketplace.

Chris is very comfortable with sales and management, whilst also managing the Estendio team with a strong hands-on approach.

Chris’ drive and passion crossed with his personable nature and in-depth
insight into the market will stand Estendio in a good stead for its future.


Chair of the board - Nicola Harkness

Nicola’s key experience is with the blue-chip company Schlumberger, the world’s leading oilfield services company; and Cairn Energy, one of Europe’s leading independent oil and gas exploration companies, and more recently with CompanyNet, Microsoft's leading Scottish partner, where she has overseen an award winning rebrand and heads up the marketing team through a period of transformational growth for the organisation. Nicola’s key strengths lie in project management and problem solving and she is as comfortable briefing a creative team of 27 people across 6 agencies as she is overseeing the delivery of a website, branding project or industry project.

Having 2 dyslexic sons and an excellent relationship with Chris, Nicola brings a real passion to the Estendio team.



A well-known specialist in entrepreneurship and growth in Scotland, John is an experienced growth company non-executive chairman and director and brings considerable experience of emerging and high growth companies to his role as Head of SME Engagement at Strathclyde Business School.

Co-founder of Entrepreneurial Scotland and former Chief Executive of The Entrepreneurial Exchange, John was a shareholding director of a young venture backed technology company engaged in the design, manufacture and distribution of laboratory equipment and co-founded a company that provided pre-hospital emergency care and healthcare industry training. As a CA in professional practice he worked with several of Scotland’s most exciting growth companies including Atlantech Technologies, Award plc and Benedetti International after returning to Scotland from Chicago in 1989.

With a real wealth of knowledge and experience, John is an excellent mentor
and advisor to the Estendio team.

Iain Collins - Lead Developer


Iain is a highly experienced software developer with in-depth knowledge of JAVA, C# & PHP. Whilst working for Cojengo, Iain was promoted from CTO to CEO and also worked part time for Estendio, building Present Pal.

Iain has now started his own consultancy company called Appinica and has been a key part of the Estendio team – now having the role as “lead developer”.

Iain’s depth of technical knowledge, crossed with his business experience with Cojengo, makes him an excellent resource. Furthermore, having worked with Estendio for nearly 3 years, great chemistry has been formed with Chris where they can challenge and get the best out of each other.


Ruairidh holwill - operations coordinator


Following a successful summer internship, Estendio will employ Ruairidh part-time throughout his honours year at The University of Strathclyde with plans to take him on full-time in the summer of 2018 as Operations Coordinator.

During his internship, Ruairidh proved to really understand the aims of Estendio and the start up  mentality by adapting to a whole range of tasks from product testing, video editing, content writing and finance.

Ruairidh’s aptitude and adaptability adds a real strength and depth to the Estendio team.
